Information: Dr Mark Baildon is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head in Humanities and Social Studies Education (HSSE) at the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore. He is co-editor (with Li-Ching Ho) of HSSE Online: Research and Practice in Humanities and Social Studies Education. He co-authored the book, Social Studies as New Literacies in a Global Society: Relational Cosmopolitanism in the Classroom, with James Damico (Indiana University).

His research and scholarship primarily focus on ways to support social studies inquiry practices and 21st century literacies in new global contexts. He is especially interested in questions about the relationships between social studies inquiry and new literacies, ways to better support teachers' and students' inquiry and literacy practices, especially with new media, technologies, and digital texts, and epistemological issues related to social studies inquiry and literacies.

With James Damico, Dr Baildon created the Critical Web Reader (CWR), a comprehensive set of Web-based inquiry, literacy, and technology tools designed to guide teachers and students to engage strategically with Web-based texts and technologies. They have also co-founded DELVE Learning to help teachers and schools scaffold literacy and critical thinking for 21st century learners.

Other areas of research include citizenship education, the role of social studies education in global contexts, and ways to improve history education in Singapore.
